STEP 1Labour contract

The Ministry of labour contract indicating designation and monthly salary will be submitted for approval.

STEP 2E-Visa Issuance

Immigration will perform a security check on the application and an initial E-Visa is issued post-approval.

STEP 3Change of Status

Change of status will be issued if the Freelancer is inside the UAE. (If the Freelancer is outside the country, he/ she must enter the UAE using the newly issued E-Visa within 60 days.

STEP 4Medical Fitness Test & Health Insurance

A medical test is required as part of the visa process and can be done in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Medical test results take 3-5 working days to be issued. An express service is also available at an additional cost. Health insurance is applied for once the medical test is completed and will be linked to your Emirates ID.

STEP 5Biometrics

If you are required to complete your biometrics, please note that this can only be completed at a biometrics center in Dubai.

STEP 6Residency Approval & Emirates ID

As per new regulation, the Emirates ID now officially serves as your residency document, having replaced the visa stickers on to the passports. Residency approval is received in 2-3 working days. The Emirates ID card is issued within 3-5 working days of the visa stamping.

Important Note –If you selected an unskilled designation on your application form, you are required to complete the Tawjeeh training as part of the visa process in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Renewals

Visa Cancellation
The cancellation process typically takes 5 to 7 working days and can only be completed in two scenarios:

While you are inside the UAE.

If you have been outside the UAE for more than 180 consecutive days.
Who can you work with as a freelancer?
Where can you work with the freelance visa?

You may work in any Emirate of the UAE, including all of the UAE Free Zones. Free Zones may require you to obtain an access pass (or similar) from the Free Zone Authorities, enabling you to enter and work in the respective Free Zone legally. In certain cases, particularly in Abu Dhabi, a visa issued from Abu Dhabi is required to obtain security clearances for oil, gas, and power projects.
